Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are your lessons in-person or virtual?

I can accommodate either request in my general geographic area but virtual is the only option if the location is far away.

Where do you meet to tutor?

For in-person lessons, I will travel to your location. I prefer to meet in your home but other public places are also possible. If we meet at a library or other location, the student is responsible for making sure we have an area to work.

What geographic area do you cover?

I actively work in South Brunswick, Plainsboro, West Windsor, Princeton, Belle Mead, Skillman, Hillsborough, North Brunswick, and East Brunswick. These are all in NJ. For other local areas, please ask me. Other areas may have to be strictly remote.

What hours are you available to tutor?

This is a full-time business for me, and I pride myself on my flexibility and accessibility. I am available weekday afternoons and evenings and all weekend usually. I try to schedule college students during the weekday hours to free up the later hours for my younger students who are in school during that time.

  • Can I have the same tutoring time every week?

I will give you a designated slot weekly. If you must switch times due to an appointment or scheduling conflict, I will see what is available that week. If necessary, we can always skip that week. I can only give designated spots to students who meet weekly or more often. If you are “as needed,” the spot will depend on current availability.

    How do virtual lessons work?

Virtual lessons are accomplished by using the Zoom platform and a whiteboard website that is free for the student to use. I will write the lesson notes and problems out using a computer tablet and digital stylus. At the end of the session, the student can download the notes as a PDF file remotely.

Are lessons 1-on-1 or in groups?

Almost every lesson is 1-on-1. If you want a class of two students, I can accommodate you, but only if both students are taking the same math topic in the same school. That makes it fair to all.

How frequently do we need to meet?

It depends on the needs of the customer, but for many people, once a week is sufficient. Please note that my minimum charge is for 1 hour of work. Each session is a full hour. If you need a longer lesson, we can discuss it.

Are you available for extra sessions before tests and finals?

Yes, but it depends on availability and the time of year.

  • What is your tutoring style?

I want to be supportive and encouraging. I usually introduce a concept and work through an example, then I hand the reins over to the student to try. I believe in getting the student as independent as possible in a rapid manner. I want to make this journey as stress-free as possible.

    Do you assign homework?

I will assign homework at every session if it is requested.

  • How is pricing determined?

Pricing is determined primarily by the travel distance required. In South Brunswick, my hourly rate starts at $70/hour. For the towns in the surrounding geographic region, my hourly rate starts at $75/hour. For remote work rates, please contact me.

What payment methods do you accept?

For in-person lessons, I can accept cash, check, PayPal, and Venmo. For remote lessons, I can only accept PayPal or Venmo at this time.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

Unless it’s an illness or other emergency, I require 24 hours’ notice of cancellation, or the full lesson fee may be charged.

Do you send out reminders before lessons?

I send text-message reminders out the day prior to each lesson. Please confirm when you receive it.
